目前我国的电线电缆行业市场竞争激烈，国内大部分中小型企业多采用价格竞争。电线电缆企业发展后劲不足，自主创新能力不强，在技术附加值相对较低的中低端 电线电缆市场中，压价竞销的情况相当普遍。业内有超过40%的企业遭遇过低于成本价中标、同行恶意压价等不良竞争的经历。同时，电线电缆原材料成本上涨， 以及我国生产的大部分产品为中低端电线电缆产品，因此，很多电线电缆生产企业处于微利甚至亏损状态。
总的来看，中国电线电缆制造业的盈利能力低于机械行业平均水平。2011年1-11月，电线电缆行业的销售利润率、总资产报酬率分别为8.46%、9.23%，同比增长分别仅为0.2、0.5个百分点。

电线电缆行业与国际大公司存在较大差距
我国虽然是电线电缆生产大国，但不是生产强国。虽然宝胜科技创新股份有限公司、江苏上上电缆集团、远东控股集团有限公司等行业内的领头企业在市场上有较强的竞争力，但是，我国电线电缆生产企业90%以上的电缆公司为中小型企业，总体产能严重过剩，产业集中度不高，自主创新能力不强，中低端产品的同质化竞争严重，产品质量总体水平还不高，行业无序过度扩张，市场竞争不规范。
