Last week our English teacher asked us to write a recommendation for any book as a homework. What have I chosen? Harry Potter, of course. And I don't know why, but I would like to tell you my story.
I've chosen to tell you about Harry Potter books because I think that these books are too often underestimated and considered children's books, but in fact that's not so.
This is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author Joanne Kathleen Rowling. As everybody knows, I guess, the books chronicle the adventures of a wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. First of all, the main plot concerns Harry's quest to overcome the Dark Wizard Lord Voldemort, whose aims are to become immortal, conquer the wizarding world, subjugate non-magical people – muggles – and destroy all those who stand in his way, especially Harry Potter. This is interesting all by itself, I think. But, above all, a very exciting and fascinating plot hides a lot incredibly wise themes, e.g. theme of making one's way through adolescence and "going over one's most harrowing ordeals – and thus coming to terms with them".
The story tells us about power and abuse of power, love, prejudice, achievement of personhood, friendship and bravery, life and death, growing up prematurely, the choice between what is right and what is easy. We see the death of Harry's parents, his godfather Sirius, his owl Hedwig, his mentor Albus Dumbledore, his good friends and his archenemy Severus Snape. We get through this with him, though the suffering, the guilt, war, through a first love. We fight with him against the devils and realize that many friends aren't on our side while the enemies actually aren't enemies.
So, to sum up, I grew up on these books and learnt important lessons. I know that I will always love this story and I want my children and their children also love it. I'll stay with Harry until the very end, always. And I want to recommend it to everyone who hasn't read it yet, because you would enjoy reading these fabulous books and finding yourself in its characters.
Here's a story turned out.
I don't claim perfect English, just wanted to share with you.
