Dear Steve Jobs,

Today, because of you, I decided that I will stay in the great city of New York for the rest of my life. You see, my relationship with New York is very much like my relationship with men. A love-hate relationship that is. I can’t live with them and I can’t live without them. The only difference is that NYC is incapable of straying. If anything, I’d be the one to stray.

Today, because of you, I was able to listen to Moon River while staring dreamily out of the window from Dean and Deluca instead of staring into Tiffany’s gem-filled window; sipping coffee and eating a donut instead of Danish pastry…in my skinny jeans and rain boots instead of couture dress and black gloves.

Today, because of you, texting is more pleasurable with those conversation bubbles. While I would love to have the ability to recall some of the texts I sent at night, I’m grateful that those coloured conversation bubbles make it easier to drunk text without having to worry if I had texted the wrong person. Oh, and I especially love how all the messages are threaded so that I can spend my free time to obsessively analyse what he meant by “Do you want to come over?”

For reasons I couldn’t quite understand, we are perfect for each other, and I’m afraid of what such perfection would do to my life…

So, thank you Steve Job for inventing the iPhone. Thank you iPhone for breaking on me. If it wasn’t because of you, I would not have strutted my lazy ass to SoHo at 9 o’clock in the morning on this rainy day; I would not have had the chance to pretend that I was Holly Golightly for a total of 10 minutes. And if it wasn’t because of you, I would not have fallen in LOVE with New York all over again… and again.
