The Mark was burning, but he found he could care less. The pain was nothing compared to the throbbing ache in his chest.

She was crying heavily now.

He swallowed. ”Hermione-“

“You have n-no right to c-call me that, ” she managed between sobs. ”My parents, ” she murmured, her eyes widening as if she could see the remains of her childhood home right before her eyes once more. She swiped at her face hastily. ”How could you?” she repeated.

“I didn’t have a choice, ” he managed to bite out.

“There’s always a choice, Malfoy!” she screamed and the use of his last name was not lost on him.

He felt his eyes starting to burn as well. It was too overwhelming. He raised his wand.

She laughed, but it was empty. Hollow. “What, going to kill me too? You might as well finish the job thoroughly, am I right?”

The Mark was burning. He swallowed back a sob, forcing forward memories of him and her. Together.

“ Obliviate. ”

He gently settled her into a sitting position and stood back.
